Le "pitch" sera rapide puisque c'est une nouvelle: Une femme et son insomnie....qui n'en est pas une!!!
Mon avis: Cette nouvelle de Haruki Murakami a été publiée en Japonais puis en Français dans un recueil de nouvelles" L'éléphant s'évapore" en 2007 chez Belfond. Il est publié aujourd'hui dans une édition de luxe (et oui le prix de 17 € peut sembler élevé pour une nouvelle qui se lit en moins d'1heure), illustrée par Kat Menschik (je n'ai pas vraiment aimé les dessins mais d'autres auront peut être une autre sensibilité sur le sujet).
Quant au texte, on retrouve l'inimitable plume du maitre qui lui seul est capable de faire une description d'un quotidien tellement réel, avec une précision dans les moindres détails, d'une vie banale et sans surprise, qui décrite par d'autres deviendrait vite ridicule!! Cette ménagère japonaise est tellement proche de tant de femmes au foyer que ça donne presque envie de hurler de rire et pourtant ce qui lui arrive est tellement FANTASTIQUE dans le sens "hors du réel " et malgré tout on y croit dur comme fer !!!! Quel talent de nous transporter en quelques lignes, sans qu'on s'en rende compte, aux frontières de l'impossible.
Bien sur ce genre littéraire peut ne pas être apprécié car on a à peine le temps de s'attacher au personnage que l'histoire est déjà finie.....mais bon moi j'aime!!

My opinion: This story by Haruki Murakami has been published in Japanese and then French in a short story collection "The Elephant Vanishes" in 2007 by Belfond. It is published today in a deluxe edition (and yes the price of 17 € may seem high for a new one that reads in less than 1hour), illustrated by Kat Menschik (I have not really liked the drawings but others will be a different sensitivity on the subject).
As for the text, there is the inimitable pen of the master who alone is able to make a description of a newspaper so real, accurate in every detail, an ordinary life and not surprisingly, that described for others would quickly become ridiculous! The Japanese housewife is so close to so many women in the home that it almost makes want to scream with laughter and yet what happens to him is so fantastic in the sense "out of reality" and yet we believe as hard as iron! ! What a talent to carry us in a few lines without anyone noticing, on the borders of the impossible.
Although this genre may not be appreciated because we barely have time to focus on character as the story is already over ..... but hey I like!
Conclusion: To offer for Christmas :-)
A real treat for the Murakami fans out there.

I did enjoy this novel as much as the "Wind-up Bird Chronicles" or the "Hard-boiled Wonderland and the end of the world", but I have to admit I was langing for few more pages..:)..Don't be fool by the classic stereotype theme of the Japanese housewife, it will keep you awake and going..Lastly I did appreciate the illustrations, but like it's been mentionned before, it just a question of personnal taste, which in no means alter the story itself.
I agree, this novel would make a real nice Christmas gift.
